BIOGRAPHY:
Mr. Welch has considerable experience in large-scale litigation matters
involving a wide range of practice areas, including insurance coverage,
subrogation, and insurance defense. He has handled numerous multi-million
dollar litigation claims in areas as diverse as premises liability,
contract disputes, wrongful death, personal injury, products liability,
railroad/FELA and transportation claims. Mr. Welch has years of
experience in admiralty and maritime litigation, including both defense
and subrogation of claims governed by the Jones Act, Longshore and Harbor
Workers’ Compensation Act, Warsaw Convention, Carriage of Goods by Sea
Act, Carmack Amendment and the Harter Act. In addition, Mr. Welch
successfully pursued a multi-million dollar recovery on behalf of one of
the largest product owners sustaining losses in what was, at the time,
the largest food condemnation proceeding ever undertaken by the United States
government.
Mr. Welch has successfully obtained dispositive judgments on
behalf of clients in federal courts in Illinois,
Indiana and Texas. His state court experience
includes successful appeals to the Illinois Supreme Court and appellate
courts, as well as numerous favorable dispositive rulings within district
courts in Cook, Madison, and DuPage Counties. Mr. Welch’s trial
experience includes successful prosecution of a subrogation claim
resulting in recovery of 100% of paid losses, plus interest, costs and
attorneys’ fees.
Mr. Welch has also participated in the arbitration and
mediation of millions of dollars worth of claims arising out of complex
commercial and personal injury litigation.Mr. Welch also has extensive
experience both taking and defending the depositions of fact and expert
witnesses, drafting and arguing motions, and managing cases involving
complex and voluminous discovery.
